I went to the butcher today.

They are always friendly and always generous. They usually throw in a little something extra or knock 20 cents off of a $5.20 deal. I often find myself telling friends about the great deal I got and how delicious the meat is etc.

The thing is, I always leave feeling my money is well spent and I know I’ll be going back because of it. I left today and realised what I was experiencing when I visit the butcher, I experience the currency of favours.

The favour that makes the deal sweeter, the favour that says you are valued. You are a VIP, you are someone and you matter. The currency of favours pays a bill far greater than we can afford and invests in a way that’s priceless.

How much is the cost to the butcher? In the deal I mentioned above I would say 20 cents and a smile! What is it worth? A huge amount! Think of what they’ve purchased, they now have a brand evangelist who will tell everyone (given the right mental trigger) about their product! Then their evangelist will return and buy more goods. Using a favour they invest in returning business and invest in the relationship with their clientele.

So maybe money doesn’t cut it all the time with your job/business/life. Maybe a favour will help the customer make a decision. Maybe a favour will turn your client into an advocate or even an evangelist for your company. Maybe a favour will tell someone they are loved or valued.

Food for thought!

Have a great day.

With life, sometimes I get stuck and usually a friend or family member will utter the following:

“What would you change if you could change something?”

Was thinking about this the other day and thought this sentence has already admitted defeat. “What would you do if you could…” Meaning that right now there is nothing you can do, but have a think about it!

The phrase should really go something more like this:

“What would change my life, if I did it right now?”

From this make a list, you’ll find both positives and negatives, for example “quit my job” will be on the list if you have a job, for me this is always on the cards but you need to eat! So use your brain, weigh up the consequences of the life changing possibility and then act or don’t act accordingly. Hope this helps! Have a great day!

If I enjoy what I do, If I’m making a difference to my world with what I do, then the drudgery of the 9 to 5 isn’t so bad.

I guess I am sharing my revelation so that you may find some insight or be reminded of a time when you had such an insight yourself, Work sucks…..it’s true, but if I change my approach I can make it work to my advantage.

Maybe you are working a job you really hate, but if you look at it in the light of I am providing a life for my family or this is simply the transport I need to get me to (insert dream here), things don’t seem so bad. If we look at work and take it for what it is to each of us; then what was a negative becomes simply a piece of your puzzle you need to put in place for the bigger picture to become realized. Not every piece of the puzzle is fun to put on the table, But if you keep insight the finished picture, you’ll find yourself being excited and motivated in the worst of situations.

I used to hang with a crew who used to play things down all the time to appear a certain way. I have the problem of getting enthused, getting excited, building people up and as you can guess I was a square peg in a round hole! I did how ever eventually come to the realization that if I wasn’t excited about things, I simply wasn’t excited! Rocket science I know! I imagine they’ll look back on life and if ever pressed for some words they would sum it up with “it was ok”…lame!! I will look back on a life full of Joy, Peace, Love, Trials, Victory, Pain, Misery, Loss and report that it was all worth it!

Make the most of today and see things as they are, All steps to something greater, another step along the road, another mark on the board, all worthwhile, not always making sense but that’s OK, that’s God’s business.

Have a great day!

Newspaper Adverts On The Radio

Think about this. When have you ever said this “I’m going to the hardware shop for
all my hardware needs”. Answer is you haven’t. Then why should your radio advert
say the same? I call these newspaper adverts on the radio.

I read something interesting the other day, it was about radio adverts (funnily enough)
and it mentioned that people have become so accustomed to poorly written adverts
they assume that’s how they are meant to sound! I still hear adverts with your 1 stop
building shop etc. surely we are capable of something more? I mean we first heard
this 1 stop thing a LONG TIME AGO. The world as since changed and with the ever
advancing world online the market has changed.

The flood the airwaves with my brand until you buy it approach is dead.

Seth Godin mentions in his book “Linchpin” that we have a huge amount of choice
and no time. I don’t know Seth personally but all you have to do is walk into a service
station and see the range of drinks that are available there. If you haven’t made a
choice before you go in the doors you will find yourself inundated with choice and if
you are anything like me, you will find it a bit tough to decide which one to buy.

Maybe I’ve watched too much TV, spent too much time online and have
become “over branded” with drinks or maybe drink manufacturers aren’t doing
enough to stand out. With this being the case, I will ignore most drinks and go for
something I like and have had in the past. Everyone looses. I want to try new stuff, I
want to explore and discover. Someone draw an arrow please!

In short we have become experts at ignoring advertising because most of it is
unremarkable. There is so much advertising and marketing now, you need to stand
out. You need to make waves.

Seth’s book is very good, get it.

When it comes to radio the best thing you can do is STAND OUT. If you are getting a
radio advert together with the intent of “fitting in” then you are wasting your money.

If you want an advert that sounds like so and so’s advert you are wasting your money,
because all you will achieve is re enforcing so an so’s brand.

Think about your business. What is it I can do that no-one else can or does? Do we
live up to our company slogan? What do we deliver and in turn what do we sell?
Analyse your business, then have an all out go.

Radio costs money. Use it wisely and don’t dismiss a copywriters Idea on the grounds
that it’s not what you imagined. It could still work.

Copywriters see a lot of adverts and at least know what will differentiate the way your
business sounds to others on the station.

In short, with radio, stand out, be remarkable (worth making a remark about)

or save your money.
